Sowing instructions:
Sowing zucchinis is simple and straightforward. Ideally, you should start sowing in spring as soon as there is no longer any risk of frost. Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil. Loosen the soil and sow the zucchini seeds about 2-3 cm deep in small hills or rows. Make sure to cover the seeds with soil and water them sufficiently to promote germination.
Tips and tricks:
- Regular watering: Zucchini plants need regular watering, especially during the hot summer months. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged to promote healthy growth.
- Mulching: Mulching around the zucchini plants helps to retain moisture in the soil, reduce weed growth and protect the plants from disease. Use organic mulching materials such as straw or grass clippings.
- Promote fertilization: Zucchinis are self-pollinating plants, but you can encourage pollination by attracting bees and other pollinators to your garden. Plant flowering plants nearby or even attract bee colonies to improve the harvest.
- Timely harvest: Zucchinis should be harvested regularly when they are still young and tender, about 15-20 cm long. Overripe fruits can become woody and bitter. Keep an eye on your plants and harvest them continuously to encourage continued production.
Worth knowing:
- Health benefits: Zucchini are rich in fiber, vitamins and minerals such as vitamin C, vitamin A, potassium and magnesium. They are low in calories and can provide a variety of health benefits, including promoting healthy digestion and supporting the immune system.
- Versatile use: Zucchinis are extremely versatile in the kitchen. You can roast, grill, steam, stuff or even enjoy them raw. They are ideal as a side dish, in soups, salads, casseroles, stir-fries and much more.
- Different varieties: In addition to the classic green zucchini, there are also yellow and striped varieties as well as mini zucchinis, which are ideal for small gardens or container cultivation. Experiment with different varieties to discover new flavors and textures.
