Sowing instructions

If you grow Aquilegia vulgaris var. stellata plena, you can look forward to a breathtaking display of flowers. This double columbine variety is known for its double flowers and rich variety of colors. Sow the seeds in well-drained, moist soil in spring or fall. Sprinkle the seeds on the surface of the soil and press them down lightly without covering them, as they need light to germinate. Keep the soil evenly moist, but avoid waterlogging. Germination takes place in 2-4 weeks at temperatures between 15-20°C.

Tips and tricks

  • Location: Plant the aquilegia in a semi-shady to sunny spot that is protected from strong winds.
  • Floor: Columbines prefer humus-rich, well-drained soil. Improve the soil with compost if necessary.
  • Pouring: Keep the soil evenly moist, but not wet, during the growing season.
  • Fertilize: Fertilize the plants in spring with a balanced fertilizer to promote growth.
  • Care: Remove faded flowers regularly to encourage the formation of new flowers and control self-seeding.
