Sowing instructions

If you decide to grow Scutellaria altissima seeds, you can look forward to an interesting plant that is both ornamental and useful. Scutellaria altissima, also known as tall helleborine, thrives best in well-drained, humus-rich soil. Choose a location that is partially sunny to semi-shady. Seeds should be sown in spring as soon as there is no risk of frost. Sow the seeds thinly on the surface of the prepared soil and cover them lightly with soil. Keep the soil constantly moist, but avoid waterlogging.

Tips and tricks

• Irrigation: Keep the soil evenly moist during the germination phase. After germination, you can reduce the watering, but make sure that the soil never dries out completely.
• Fertilization: Scutellaria altissima requires little additional fertilization. However, a light application of compost in spring can promote growth.
• Protection against pests: Monitor your plants regularly for signs of pests such as aphids or slugs. Use environmentally friendly pest control methods if necessary.
• Mulching: Mulch around the plants to retain soil moisture and reduce weed growth.
• Distance: Make sure the plants are not too close together. A distance of around 30-40 cm between the plants is ideal to ensure good air circulation and prevent diseases.

Scutellaria altissima belongs to the Lamiaceae family and is known for its attractive, violet-blue flowers. It is a perennial plant and can reach a height of up to 1.5 meters. In addition to its ornamental effect, it is also used in traditional medicine. Its flowers and leaves contain flavonoids and other compounds that are said to have anti-inflammatory and calming properties.
