Sowing instructions

Start sowing the Salvia austriaca seeds in spring, ideally between March and May. Choose a sunny spot in your garden, as this plant needs plenty of light to thrive. Prepare the soil by loosening it well and adding some compost. Spread the seeds evenly over the soil surface and cover them lightly with a thin layer of soil, about 0.5 cm. Keep the soil moist, but not too wet, until the seedlings appear. This usually takes 2 to 4 weeks.

Tips and tricks

To promote germination, you can soak the seeds in lukewarm water for 24 hours before sowing. This helps to increase the germination rate. Make sure to protect the young plants from snails, as they like to eat the tender seedlings. A good trick is to use small snail fences or natural barriers. When the plants have reached a height of about 10 cm, you can thin them out to a distance of 20-30 cm to give them enough space to grow. Regular watering and occasional fertilizing will encourage vigorous growth.
