Sowing instructions
If you want to grow Trichocereus seeds, also known as Echinopsis, you are on your way to cultivating robust and impressive cacti. These plants are known for their large, showy flowers and hardiness. Here are some tips for sowing Trichocereus seeds:
- Choose the right location: Trichocereus prefers a sunny location with well-drained soil. A cactus substrate is ideal as it is specially adapted to the needs of these plants.
- Soil preparation: Fill seed pots or trays with cactus substrate. Make sure the soil is slightly moist but not soggy.
- Sowing time: The best times for sowing Trichocereus seeds are in spring or early summer. Sprinkle the seeds on the surface of the substrate and press them down lightly, but do not cover them with soil.
- Germination and care: Cover the seed tray with a clear plastic cover or a glass plate to create a humid microclimate. Keep the substrate evenly moist and place the tray in a warm, bright place, but not in direct sunlight.
Tips and tricks
- Temperature control: Trichocereus seeds germinate best at temperatures between 20-25 °C. If necessary, use a heating mat to ensure constant temperatures.
- Ventilation: Ventilate the cover regularly to prevent mold growth and ensure good air circulation.
- Repotting: As soon as the seedlings are large enough, they can be transplanted into individual pots. Again, use a well-drained cactus substrate for this.
