Origin

Trichocereus bridgesii, also known as Achuma or Bolivian Torch, originates from the high plateaus of Bolivia. In its natural environment, this impressive cactus grows at altitudes of up to 3,000 meters. Due to its robust nature and ability to withstand extreme weather conditions, the Trichocereus bridgesii has also established itself as a popular plant for cactus lovers in many other parts of the world.

Worth knowing

Trichocereus bridgesii is valued not only for its fascinating appearance, but also for its cultural significance. In some indigenous cultures, it is used for traditional rituals and ceremonies. The cactus can reach a height of up to 5 meters and develops striking, large white flowers that bloom at night and exude a pleasant fragrance. Due to its beauty and historical significance, the Trichocereus bridgesii is a prized collector's item.

Tips for rooting cacti

  1. Allow the surface to dry: After you have cut a cutting, leave the cut to dry in a shady, dry place for at least a week. This prevents rotting and promotes the formation of callus tissue.
  2. Use rooting hormone: Apply a rooting hormone to the dry cut surface to accelerate the rooting process.
  3. Plants: Place the cutting in well-drained cactus soil. Use a pot with drainage holes to avoid waterlogging.
  4. Watering: Do not water or water only very sparingly until the first roots have formed. Keep the soil slightly moist, but not wet.

Care of the plants

Trichocereus bridgesii is easy to care for and does not make high demands on its environment. Here are some tips to keep your plant healthy and vigorous:

  1. Location: Place your cactus in a bright spot with direct sunlight. A south-facing window is ideal.
  2. Irrigation: Water moderately in summer and allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. In winter, the water requirement is significantly reduced - watering every few weeks is sufficient.
  3. Fertilization: Fertilize once a month during the growing season (spring and summer) with a special cactus fertilizer.
  4. Temperature: Trichocereus bridgesii prefers warm temperatures. In winter, it can tolerate temperatures of up to 5 °C as long as the soil remains dry.
  5. Repotting: You should repot your cactus every 2-3 years in spring to promote root growth and provide fresh nutrients.

With these care instructions, your Trichocereus bridgesii will thrive and be a real highlight in your collection!
