Sowing instructions

To achieve the best results when growing Allium schoenoprasum, also known as chives, start sowing in early spring. Sow the seeds about 1 cm deep in well-drained soil. Choose a sunny location to encourage growth. Make sure to plant the seeds about 15 cm apart so that they have enough space to grow. Keep the soil evenly moist, but avoid waterlogging to prevent mold growth.

Tips and tricks

A constant soil temperature of around 15-20°C is ideal for successful germination. If you live in cooler regions, you can pre-grow the seeds in small pots indoors and place the young plants outdoors after the last frosts. Prune the young shoots regularly to encourage bushy growth and keep the plant healthy. In addition, removing flower buds helps to direct the plant's energy towards the formation of new leaves, resulting in more lush growth.
