Sowing instructions

Ocimum basilicum "Siam Queen" is an aromatic basil that is perfect for your kitchen. Start sowing in spring, ideally from March to May. Use a potting compost and sow the seeds about 0.5 cm deep. Keep the soil evenly moist, but avoid waterlogging. Place the seed trays in a bright place with temperatures between 20-25°C. The first seedlings will appear after about 10-14 days. As soon as the plants are big enough, you can transplant them into larger pots or directly into the open ground.

Tips and tricks

For strong plants, you should prick out the seedlings regularly and remove the weaker plants. Basil loves sun, so choose a location with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day. Water your plants in the morning to avoid fungal diseases. Mulch the soil around the plants to retain moisture and prevent weed growth. Cut back the tips regularly to encourage branching and growth. Harvest the leaves before flowering to enjoy the best flavor.

"Siam Queen" is a special basil variety with an intense, sweet and spicy aroma reminiscent of aniseed. This variety is particularly hardy and less susceptible to pests. Originally from Thailand, it is often used in Asian cuisine and adds a special touch to dishes such as Thai curry and pho. "Siam Queen" has larger leaves than other basil varieties and can grow up to 50 cm tall. The plant is also a real eye-catcher in the garden or on the balcony, thanks to its decorative purple flowers.
