Sowing instructions

Sowing Belamcanda chinensis, also known as leopard lily, is easy and rewarding. Start sowing in spring when temperatures are consistently above 15°C. Use well-drained soil and cover the seeds only lightly with a thin layer of soil. Keep the soil moist, but avoid waterlogging to prevent mold growth. Germination usually occurs after 2-4 weeks. Make sure that the young plants are not planted too close together to give them enough space to grow.

Tips and tricks

• Light requirementBelamcanda chinensis loves sunny locations. Full sun promotes flower formation and healthy growth.
• FloorA light, sandy soil is ideal, as this improves drainage. If the soil is heavy, it is advisable to work in sand or perlite.
• IrrigationRegular watering is important, but the plant does not like waterlogged conditions. Therefore, only water when the top layer of soil is dry.
• FertilizationFertilize in spring and summer with a balanced fertilizer to promote growth.

Belamcanda chinensis, originally from Asia, is valued not only for its bright flowers but also for its medicinal properties. The roots are used in traditional Chinese medicine. The plant can grow up to 1.5 meters tall and is ideal for herbaceous borders and natural gardens. The flower color varies from yellow to orange to red, often with contrasting spots, which has earned it the name leopard lily.
