Sowing instructions

For the best start, you should sow the seeds in late spring as soon as there is no longer any risk of frost. Plant the seeds about 2-3 cm deep in well-drained, humus-rich soil. Choose a sunny location, as Cucurbita pepo "Pyza" needs plenty of light to thrive. If you want to start early, you can begin pre-cultivation indoors from the end of April. After around 2-3 weeks, the seeds will germinate and you can plant the strong young plants outdoors after the Ice Saints.

Harvest, use & storage

Pyza pumpkins are ready to harvest in the fall, usually in September. Make sure that the skin is fully hardened and the fruit can be easily removed from the stem. After harvesting, you should store the pumpkins in a cool, dry place. They will then keep for up to several months. You can use the "Pyza" pumpkins in a variety of ways in the kitchen: whether as soup, baked in the oven or as a decorative bowl for autumnal dishes - they are always a real eye-catcher!

Tips & Tricks

Water your plants regularly, but avoid waterlogging as this can damage the roots. Mulching helps to retain moisture in the soil and minimize weed growth. Give your plants enough space - about 1 square meter per plant should be available so that they can develop undisturbed.

The Cucurbita pepo "Pyza" variety is characterized by its particularly beautiful, round shape and orange-yellow colouring. It is not only a visual highlight, but also has a mild and slightly sweet taste. "Pyza" is an old, tried and tested pumpkin variety that has proven itself both in private gardens and in fields. The fruits are also relatively resistant to typical pumpkin diseases, making them easy to grow.
