Sowing instructions

The "Black Cherry" tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) is an exquisite variety that is perfect for growing in your own garden or on the balcony. To enjoy these dark, juicy tomatoes, it is best to start sowing between February and April. Use a nutrient-rich potting soil and press the seeds lightly into the soil, about 0.5 cm deep. Always keep the soil moist, but not wet. A bright windowsill or a heated greenhouse is best, where the seeds can germinate at around 20-25°C. The first seedlings will appear after 7-14 days.

Tips and tricks

As soon as the young plants are about 10 cm high, you should prick them out and transfer them to larger pots. Make sure that each plant has enough space to develop. You can fertilize regularly with a tomato-specific fertilizer to promote healthy growth. "Black cherry tomatoes thrive best in a sunny location where they receive at least 6-8 hours of sunlight. To achieve a rich harvest, regularly remove the side shoots (pinching out) and support the plants with tomato stakes or trellises.

Worth knowing

The black cherry is known for its unique, sweet and spicy flavor and is often referred to as the "candy tomato". It is ideal for salads, as a snack or for enhancing dishes. This variety is also relatively robust and resistant to many common tomato diseases. With a growth height of up to 2 meters, it requires sufficient space and care, but rewards you with a rich harvest of small, almost black fruits. Harvest time usually begins around 75 days after planting.
