Sowing instructions:
Growing Salvia miltiorrhiza requires a little patience and care, but with the right steps you can be successful.
- Time of sowing: Start sowing in spring as soon as all danger of frost has passed. Sage thrives best in mild to warm climates.
- Choice of location: Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil. Sage does not like waterlogging, so good drainage is important.
- Preparation of the floor: Loosen the soil and remove weeds. Mix the soil with some compost to improve the nutrient supply.
- Sowing: Sprinkle the seeds evenly over the prepared area and cover them lightly with soil. Press the soil down gently to ensure good soil contact.
- Irrigation: Keep the soil moist, but not wet, during germination. Avoid flooding the soil as this could cause the seeds to rot.
Tips and tricks:
- Regular watering: Sage does not like drought, so it is important to water regularly, especially during dry periods in summer.
- Mulching: A layer of mulch around the plants helps to retain moisture and suppress weed growth.
- Harvest time: The leaves and flowers can be harvested as soon as the plant is well established. Cut the shoots regularly to encourage growth.
