The tomato variety Solanum lycopersicum "Aztek" is a compact dwarf tomato that is perfect for growing on balconies, terraces or windowsills. It delights with its bright yellow, sweet and aromatic fruits and is particularly easy to care for - ideal for beginners and experienced gardeners alike.

Sowing instructions

1. Time: Sow from February to April indoors or in a greenhouse.
2. Substrate: Use low-nutrient potting compost and fill it into small pots or seed trays.
3. Sowing depth: The seeds should be pressed about 0.5 cm deep into the soil and lightly covered with soil.
4. Germination: Place the seed in a warm place (20-25 °C). Germination takes place after 7-14 days.
5. Pricking: As soon as the seedlings have two true leaves, you should transfer them to nutrient-rich soil.
6. Location: After the Ice Saints (May), the young plants can go outside, provided the temperatures are stable.

Harvest, use & storage

• Harvest time: You can harvest the sweet, yellow fruits from June to October. The plants bear abundantly, so you can enjoy fresh tomatoes for a long time.
• Use: The tomatoes are ideal for salads, as a snack or for decorating dishes.
• Storage: Best eaten fresh! Alternatively, you can keep them in the fridge for up to a week or process them into chutneys and sauces.

Tips and tricks

• Fertilization: Regular fertilization with organic tomato fertilizer promotes growth and fruit set.
• Pouring: Keep the soil evenly moist, but avoid waterlogging.
• Seat selection: "Aztek" grows excellently in pots (minimum volume 5 liters) and does not require an additional support rod.
• Flower pollination: If you keep the plant indoors, you can lightly shake the flowers to aid pollination.

Worth knowing

• The variety Aztec belongs to the small bush tomatoes and only reaches a height of about 30 cm.
• It is perfect for small gardens, raised beds or indoor cultivation.
• The bright yellow fruits have an intense aroma and a delicate sweetness.
• Due to its compact size, it is also ideal for children to gain their first experience of gardening.
