Sowing instructions

Celosia argentea var. cristata, also known as cockscomb, is a fascinating plant that will add an exotic touch to your garden. To grow this beauty successfully, start sowing in spring. Use nutrient-rich, well-drained soil and sow the seeds about 1 cm deep. Keep the soil constantly moist, but avoid waterlogging. The optimum germination temperature is between 20-25 °C. You will see the first seedlings after about 1-2 weeks. As soon as they are big enough, you can transplant them into the open ground or into larger pots, whereby a planting distance of 20-30 cm is ideal.

Tips and tricks

Celosia argentea var. cristata loves sunny locations. The more sunlight it gets, the more intense its colors will shine. Make sure to water regularly, especially during hot, dry periods. A balanced liquid fertilizer, given every two weeks, promotes healthy growth and lush flowering. Remove wilted inflorescences regularly to encourage the plant to produce new ones. The flowers are also ideal for drying and can be used as a permanent decoration.
