Sowing instructions

Would you like to enrich your garden with an unusual plant? Then Nicandra physaloides "Shoo Fly" seeds are just the thing for you! It is best to sow the seeds between March and April in seed trays or directly in the open ground. Make sure that the seeds are only lightly covered with soil, as they need light to germinate. Keep the soil moist, but avoid waterlogging. The first seedlings will appear after around 10 to 14 days. As soon as the plants are strong enough, you can transfer them to the open ground at a distance of 30 cm.

Harvest, use & storage

Nicandra physaloides is not only beautiful to look at, but also useful: its fruits, which resemble small lanterns, can be harvested in the fall. Although they are not edible, they make excellent decorations. Cut off the stems and dry them upside down in an airy place. This will preserve them for a long time and provide colorful accents in your home.

Tips & Tricks

Nicandra physaloides "Shoo Fly" is a robust plant that is also suitable as natural protection against aphids. Simply place it near vulnerable plants and you will see how effective it is! Make sure to water the plant regularly, especially on hot days, so that it doesn't dry out.

Did you know that the Nicandra physaloides originally comes from South America? It is also known as the "apple of Peru" and is known for its repellent effect against insects. The plant's blue flowers only open during the day and magically attract bees - a real eye-catcher in your garden!
