Sowing instructions:

Borago officinalis thrives best in a sunny location with well-drained soil. Here are the steps for successful sowing:

1. Prepare the floor: Loosen the soil and remove weeds and large stones. Borage prefers a slightly acidic to neutral soil. If the soil is too heavy, you can add some sand or compost to improve drainage.
2. Sowing: Scatter the Borago officinalis seeds evenly over the prepared area and cover them lightly with soil. Press the soil down gently to ensure that the seeds have good soil contact.
3. Irrigation: Keep the soil evenly moist after sowing until the seeds germinate. Borage does not like conditions that are too dry, but excessive watering can lead to waterlogging, which should be avoided.
4. Germination and thinning: Seed germination can vary depending on conditions and seed quality. As soon as the seedlings are large enough to be manipulated, thin them out so that they have enough space to grow. A distance of about 30 cm between plants is ideal.

Tips and tricks:

• Regular harvest: To prolong the flowering period and keep the plant compact, regularly harvest the flowers and young leaves. This also promotes abundant re-flowering.
• Natural pest control: Borage attracts pollinators such as bees and hoverflies, which is not only beneficial for your plants, but also helps to keep pests away.
• Prevent self-seeding: As Borago officinalis can easily self-seed, you should remove the inflorescences in good time to prevent uncontrolled spreading if you do not want the plant to spread across the garden.
