Sowing instructions

Would you like to harvest your own delicious beet? The seeds of Beta vulgaris var. conditiva "Rote D'Egypte" are just the thing for you. Start sowing outdoors as soon as the danger of frost has passed, around April or May. Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil, ideally rich in nutrients. Sow the seeds at a depth of about 1-2 cm and keep the distance between the rows at about 30 cm. Germination usually occurs after 2-3 weeks if the soil temperature is between 10 and 20°C.

Tips and tricks

To achieve the best results, keep the soil evenly moist but avoid waterlogging. Make sure that the plants have enough space - a distance of 10 cm between the plants is optimal to promote the development of the tubers. When the plants are about 10 cm high, thin them out to ensure good ventilation. You can use a layer of mulch to protect against pests and diseases. Regular fertilization with organic compost promotes growth and the quality of the harvest.

Worth knowing

The "Rote D'Egypte" variety is known for its deep red, sweet and tender tuber. It is ideal for salads, stews or as a roasted side dish. This variety is characterized by its high resistance to diseases and pests, which makes it particularly easy to grow. They can be harvested in late summer to fall when the tubers have reached a size of around 8-10 cm. Store the harvested tubers in a cool, dry place to extend their shelf life.
