Sowing instructions

To grow Echinacea simulata successfully, start sowing in spring. Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil. Loosen the soil and spread the seeds thinly. Press them down lightly, but do not cover them completely, as echinacea needs light to germinate. Keep the soil moist, but not wet. Germination usually takes 2 to 4 weeks. Once the seedlings are strong enough, you can transplant them to a distance of about 30 cm so that each plant has enough space to develop.

Tips and tricks

For optimum germination, you can stratify the seeds before sowing. This mimics the natural cold stimulus of winter. Place the seeds in the refrigerator for about 30 days, mixed with moist sand. When transplanting the seedlings, be careful not to damage the tender roots. Once established, Echinacea simulata is very easy to care for and requires little water. Cutting back the wilted flowers slightly will encourage a longer flowering period.

It is an excellent bee pasture and also attracts butterflies. The plant is hardy and can survive temperatures as low as -30°C. Echinacea has been used for centuries in traditional medicine, particularly to strengthen the immune system. Even though Echinacea simulata is less well known than other Echinacea species, it still offers a unique beauty with its light pink to white flowers.
