Would you like to cultivate the impressive Chelidonium majus "Flore Pleno" in your garden? This variety, also known as "stuffed celandine", offers you lush, double flowers and is a real eye-catcher. You can sow the seeds either in the fall or early spring. Choose a location in partial shade or in the sun, where the soil is well-drained and rich in nutrients. Cover the seeds lightly with soil and keep them evenly moist until the seedlings appear.

Tips and tricks

For successful germination, it is important to stratify the seeds before sowing. You can achieve this by placing the seeds in the refrigerator for a few weeks. This cold treatment mimics natural winter conditions and helps the seeds to germinate better. Avoid waterlogging as it can damage the roots. Chelidonium majus 'Flore Pleno' likes slightly acidic to neutral soils, so a small amount of lime can be added to the soil if necessary.

The plant contains numerous alkaloids, which were traditionally used to treat skin problems. However, caution is advised as all parts of the plant are poisonous. Chelidonium majus "Flore Pleno" can grow up to 60 cm tall and is a great addition to herbaceous borders or naturalistic gardens.
