Sowing instructions
To ensure that your Pinus thunbergii seeds germinate successfully, you should follow a few important steps:
- StratificationThe seeds need a cold period to break their dormancy. Place them in the refrigerator for about 4-6 weeks, wrapped in a damp paper towel or in damp sand.
- Sowing timeThe best time for sowing is spring (March to May).
- SubstrateUse well-drained, slightly acidic soil, e.g. a mixture of sand, peat and perlite.
- SowingPlace the seeds about 1 cm deep in the substrate and keep it evenly moist.
- LocationChoose a bright spot with temperatures between 18-22 °C.
- Germination: The first seedlings appear after 4-8 weeks.

Storage:
- Store excess seeds in a dry and cool place.
- An airtight glass jar or paper bag in the refrigerator prolongs the germination period.
Tips and tricks
- Always keep the soil moist, but avoid waterlogging.
- Young plants are sensitive to frost - protect them in winter.
- For an authentic bonsai look, you can use wire techniques to shape the branches.
- Regular pruning promotes branching and a compact growth habit.
Worth knowing
