Sowing instructions

Lavandula latifolia, also known as spike lavender, is a wonderful addition to any garden. Start sowing in spring as soon as there is no risk of frost. Prepare the soil by aerating it well and working in a thin layer of compost. Sprinkle the seeds evenly over the surface and cover them lightly with a thin layer of soil. Keep the soil moist, but not soggy, until the seedlings appear. You should see the first shoots after about 2-3 weeks. Place the young plants in a sunny location with well-drained soil.

Tips and tricks

To achieve the best results, you should make sure that the soil is well-drained, as Lavandula latifolia does not tolerate waterlogging. A mixture of sand and garden soil is ideal. Prune the plants regularly to encourage bushy growth and increase flower production. Fertilizing is rarely necessary; an annual application of organic fertilizer in spring is sufficient. Make sure to protect the plants from strong winds, otherwise they may be damaged.

Lavandula latifolia is not only popular for its attractive flowers, but also for its intense fragrance, which attracts people as well as bees and butterflies. The plant is often used in the production of essential oils, which have calming and healing properties.
