Sowing instructions

Lollo Rosa is one of the most colorful varieties of lettuce. It is best to sow the seeds directly outdoors or in a seedbed from March to August. Make rows about 25 cm apart and place the seeds about 0.5 to 1 cm deep in the soil. The optimum germination temperature is 10 to 18°C. Water the seeds regularly to ensure even moisture and make sure to thin out the young plants after emergence to promote healthy growth.

Harvest, use & storage

Lollo Rosa can be harvested around 6 to 8 weeks after sowing. Cut off the outer leaves regularly to encourage a fresh supply. The lettuce can be enjoyed straight after harvesting and is ideal as a crunchy side dish or as a decorative highlight in salads. Lollo Rosa can be kept well wrapped in the fridge for around 2 to 3 days without losing its freshness and intense flavor.

Tips & Tricks

Lollo Rosa thrives best in humus-rich, well-drained soil and in a sunny to semi-shady location. Avoid waterlogging to prevent root rot. Regular watering and a layer of mulch will keep the soil evenly moist and promote growth. To avoid slug infestation, you can protect the lettuce in raised beds or with slug pellets.

The reddish color of Lollo Rosa is due to the high concentration of anthocyanins, which are not only decorative but also act as powerful antioxidants. Lollo Rosa is also rich in vitamins and minerals, especially vitamins K, A and C. This means that the salad not only supports a balanced diet, but also your immune system.
