Sowing instructions:

Sowing Teucrium polium seeds is relatively straightforward, but there are a few important points to bear in mind to achieve optimum results. It is best to start in spring or early summer when temperatures are consistently above 15°C. Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil. Loosen the soil and remove weeds and stones.

Scatter the seeds evenly over the prepared area and then cover them with a thin layer of soil. Press the soil down lightly and keep it moist, but not wet. Regular watering is particularly important during germination and in the first few weeks afterwards.

Tips and tricks:

• Teucrium polium seeds germinate best if they are soaked in lukewarm water for about a week before sowing. This accelerates germination.
• Make sure that the plants have enough space to spread out, as Teucrium polium often grows into a bushy form.
• If you want to start the seeds indoors, it is best to use potting compost and keep it warm and moist until the seedlings are big enough to be moved outdoors.

The plant is known for its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties and is traditionally used to treat various ailments such as gastrointestinal problems, respiratory diseases and skin conditions.

The leaves of Teucrium polium are also often used as a spice in Mediterranean cuisine and give dishes an aromatic flavor. The plant also attracts bees and other pollinators and can therefore help to promote biodiversity in the garden.
