Sowing instructions

Sowing Raphanus sativus "Zlata" is child's play! It is best to sow the seeds directly outdoors as soon as the soil has warmed up slightly in spring - around March. Make a groove about 1 cm deep in the soil and spread the seeds 5-10 cm apart. Make sure the soil is loose and rich in nutrients. Then cover lightly with soil and water carefully. Make sure that the seeds never dry out, but also avoid waterlogging. The first seedlings will be visible after just 4 to 7 days!

Harvest, use & storage

You can harvest the first radishes after just 4 to 6 weeks. Raphanus sativus "Zlata" is characterized by its golden yellow, round bulb, which is not only a visual highlight, but also has a mild, spicy taste. The radishes taste wonderful fresh in salads, as a snack or as a spicy garnish on sandwiches. Harvest them as soon as they have reached a good size to ensure the best flavor quality. For storage, we recommend eating the radishes fresh, as they lose their crunchy texture quickly. However, you can also store them in the fridge for a short time, preferably wrapped in a damp cloth.

Tips & Tricks

Make sure to water the plants regularly, but avoid waterlogging as this can cause the roots to rot. A layer of mulch can help to retain moisture in the soil and prevent weeds from growing. To ensure that the radishes grow evenly, it is advisable to sow in stages - this way you will always have a fresh harvest over a longer period of time. By the way: Raphanus sativus "Zlata" prefers a sunny location, but also tolerates partial shade.

Worth knowing

The "Zlata" radish is an old, proven variety that is popular in Europe. Its golden color stands out clearly from the typical red radishes and makes it an eye-catcher in the vegetable patch. In addition, "Zlata" is very resistant to pest infestation and can be grown successfully in both spring and fall.
