Sowing instructions

To successfully grow Solanum lycopersicum "MoneyMaker", it is best to start sowing in early spring. The seeds like it warm, so you should sow them in seed trays or pots at around 18-22°C. Cover the seeds lightly with fine soil and keep them evenly moist - but not too wet. Make sure that the seeds get enough light to develop strong plants. The first seedlings will appear after around 7-14 days. As soon as the seedlings are strong enough, you can prick them out into individual pots. From mid-May, after the Ice Saints, the young plants can be moved outdoors or into a greenhouse. Choose a sunny, sheltered spot with nutrient-rich soil.

Harvest, use & storage

You can expect the first harvest after around 70-80 days. The "MoneyMaker" tomatoes are known for their round, red fruits and their excellent taste. They are perfect for fresh consumption, salads, sauces and soups. The tomatoes can be stored at room temperature for several days, but can also be kept in the fridge or canned for a longer shelf life. If you harvest more tomatoes than you can process at once, the fruit can also be frozen wonderfully or processed into delicious tomato products such as sauces and chutneys.

Tips & Tricks

For a particularly rich yield, you should regularly pinch out the plants, i.e. remove the side shoots. This allows the plant to put all its energy into fruit formation. Also make sure to water your "MoneyMaker" plants regularly, but avoid waterlogging. Mulching helps to retain moisture in the soil and reduce weeds. A support such as a tomato stake ensures that the plant does not collapse under the weight of the fruit.

The "MoneyMaker" variety is one of the most popular tomato varieties and was originally bred in the 1950s. It has proven particularly successful in Europe and impresses with its robust growth and high yields. "MoneyMaker" is ideal for both the greenhouse and the open field and is particularly resistant to many diseases.
