Sowing instructions

Would you like to grow Brassica rapa var. nipposinica "Purple"? This fascinating, purple-leaved variety is not only a visual eye-catcher, but also a real enrichment for your garden. Sow the seeds directly outdoors when the soil is well moistened in spring. Make sure that the seeds are only lightly covered with soil, about 0.5 cm deep. The ideal planting distance is approx. 30 cm. For a continuous harvest, you can resow every two weeks. The location should be sunny to semi-shady to ensure the best growth.

Harvest, use & storage

You can harvest the first leaves around 30 to 40 days after sowing. They are perfect for fresh salads, but can also be steamed or used in wok dishes. Always harvest the outer leaves so that the plant continues to grow. For storage, wrap the leaves in a damp cloth and keep them in the fridge - this will keep them fresh for up to a week.

Tips & Tricks

Brassica rapa var. nipposinica "Purple" prefers even moisture, but waterlogging should be avoided. A mulch of grass clippings or compost will help retain soil moisture and reduce the growth of weeds. Regularly removing wilted leaves will keep your plants healthy and promote a rich harvest. Mixed cultivation with plants such as dill or celery can keep pests away.

This plant is not only easy to care for, but also extremely healthy. It contains many vitamins, including A, C and K, as well as antioxidants that are good for your immune system. It is also a good source of fiber. The intense purple color indicates a high anthocyanin content, which has anti-inflammatory properties.
