Sowing instructions

Would you like to grow Nicotiana glauca, also known as tree tobacco, in your garden? Then you've come to the right place! Sowing the seeds is easy and will reward you with an impressive plant. It's best to start in spring when the temperatures rise. The seeds like it warm, so choose a bright place with at least 18-20 °C. Sprinkle the seeds only lightly on the soil and barely cover them, as they are light germinators. It is important that you keep the soil evenly moist, but not too wet. You will see the first sprouts within 2-3 weeks!

Harvest, use & storage

After around 4-6 months, you will reach the point where your Nicotiana glauca plant is fully mature. The leaves can be harvested and dried to make tobacco substitute products. Note, however, that this plant contains nicotine and is not suitable for consumption! After harvesting, you should dry the leaves in a well-ventilated, shady place. Once they are completely dry, you can store them in airtight containers to preserve their freshness. Make sure to store the leaves away from moisture to prevent mold growth.

Tips & Tricks

A tip for particularly vigorous plants: plant Nicotiana glauca in a sunny spot, as it loves lots of light! The plant is quite robust and requires little care once established. However, make sure it has enough space, as it can grow into a stately shrub or tree. Regular watering during the growth phase is important, but avoid waterlogging. To make the plant bushier, you can cut it back regularly.
