Sowing instructions
To successfully grow Capsicum annuum "Tamiro", it is best to start sowing indoors or in a greenhouse between February and March. Use fine potting compost and press the seeds lightly into the soil, then cover them thinly with substrate. The ideal germination temperature is 20-24 °C. Always keep the soil slightly moist, but avoid waterlogging. The first seedlings usually appear after 7-14 days. As soon as the plants are strong enough and the danger of frost has passed (from mid-May), you can transplant them into the open ground, raised beds or large containers. Make sure they are planted in a sunny, sheltered location with a planting distance of around 40-50 cm.
Harvest, use & storage
The fruits of the "Tamiro" variety ripen to bright red peppers around 70-80 days after planting. They are crunchy, mildly aromatic and versatile: raw in salads, grilled or stuffed, they are a real treat. After harvesting, you can store the peppers in the fridge for several days. For a longer shelf life, methods such as freezing or pickling are suitable.
Tips and tricks
- Use high-quality, nutrient-rich soil for optimum growth.
- Fertilize regularly with a vegetable fertilizer, especially during the flowering period, to encourage fruit formation.
- Ensure even watering: drought damage can impair fruit formation.
- If necessary, remove the first flowers so that the plant can put its energy into vigorous growth first.
- In cooler regions, you can protect the plants with a garden fleece to extend the ripening period.
Worth knowing
Capsicum annuum "Tamiro" is one of the bell pepper varieties that are suitable for both amateur and professional gardeners. Thanks to its disease resistance and robustness, it is particularly easy to care for. The plants reach a height of 50-70 cm and are therefore also suitable for smaller gardens or balconies. Peppers originally come from Central and South America, but have been established in our latitudes for centuries.
