The variety "Cornichon de Paris" is a traditional, early-ripening pickling cucumber that is particularly valued for the production of gherkins. It produces small, firm fruits with a fine warty texture and an intense flavor. This high-yielding cucumber variety is suitable for growing both outdoors and in greenhouses.

Sowing instructions

For successful cultivation, you should sow the seeds from April in the house or from May directly into the field sow. The optimum germination temperature is 22-25 °C. Keep the soil moist at all times, but avoid waterlogging. After the Ice Saints, you can plant the young plants outdoors. Ensure a planting distance of 30-40 cmso that the cucumbers have enough space to grow.

Cucumbers prefer a sunny, wind-protected location with humus-rich, well-drained soil. A climbing aid can support growth and protect the fruit from contact with the ground.

Harvest, use & storage

The first small cucumbers can already be 6-8 weeks after sowing harvest. For classic cornichons, the fruits should have a length of 4-6 cm have. The more often you harvest, the more fruit the plant will produce.

The cucumbers are perfect for Pickling in vinegar or brine. They retain their crunchy texture and aromatic taste. Freshly harvested cucumbers should be stored in a cool place and processed within a few days, otherwise they will lose their firmness.

✔ Regular watering: Cucumbers need even moisture. Mulching helps to maintain soil moisture.
✔ Don't forget to fertilize: A nitrogen-rich fertilizer or nettle slurry promotes growth.
✔ Promote blossoms: Remove the first side shoots to get a strong main plant.
✔ Protection against pests: Slugs love young cucumber plants - secure your beds with slug fences or slug pellets.
