Sowing instructions

To achieve the best results when sowing Duboisia hopwoodii seeds, you should follow the steps below:

1. Pre-treatment: Soak the seeds in warm water for 24 hours to promote germination.
2. Substrate: Use a well-drained potting soil, ideally with a proportion of sand or perlite.
3. Sowing: Press the seeds lightly into the substrate, but do not cover them completely as they need light to germinate.
4. Irrigation: Keep the substrate evenly moist, but avoid waterlogging.
5. Temperature: Ideal germination temperatures are between 20 and 25°C.
6. Location: Place the propagator in a bright, but not directly sunny place.
7. TIP: Pre-treatment of the seeds using Gibberillic acid (GA3) is recommended.

Tips and tricks

• Patience: Germination of Duboisia hopwoodii can take several weeks. Patience is the key to success here.
• Protection: Cover the growing container with a transparent plastic bag to ensure high humidity.
• Transplanting: As soon as the seedlings are strong enough, you can transplant them into larger pots or into the open ground.
• Care: Water regularly, but avoid overwatering. The plant prefers well-drained soil.

Duboisia hopwoodii, also known as Pituri, is a plant with a long history in Aboriginal culture. It was traditionally used as chewing tobacco and contains various alkaloids, including nicotine. The plant reaches a height of up to 3 meters and produces attractive yellow flowers. It is adapted to dry conditions and therefore requires little water once established.
