Sowing instructions

The cultivation of Punica granatum, better known as pomegranate, begins with the correct preparation of the seeds. First, you should remove the seeds from the fruit and clean them thoroughly to remove the pulp. Then leave the seeds to dry in a warm, dry place for a few days. Now you can plant the seeds about one centimeter deep in well-drained potting soil. Make sure to keep the soil evenly moist, but avoid waterlogging. Place the seed container in a warm, sunny location, ideally at temperatures around 20-25°C. Germination usually takes two to four weeks.

Tips and tricks

For successful cultivation, you should soak the seeds in lukewarm water overnight before planting. This promotes germination. Make sure that the growing soil is slightly acidic to neutral, as pomegranate plants prefer these conditions. A mini-greenhouse or plastic bag over the growing container can increase the humidity and thus support germination. As soon as the seedlings show their first real leaves, you should transplant them into larger pots to give them enough space to develop.

Punica granatum is not only popular for its delicious fruit, but also for its decorative flowers and attractive, glossy leaves. The plant is relatively easy to care for and can bear fruit for many years with the right care. Pomegranate trees prefer sunny locations and only require moderate watering. They are also quite resistant to pests and diseases. Interestingly, the pomegranate tree can be cultivated both as an ornamental plant in the garden and in a pot on the balcony or patio.
