Sowing instructions

Start by sowing the Salvia lyrata seeds in early spring or fall. You can sow them directly in the garden or pre-grow them in seed trays. It is important to cover the seeds lightly with soil and keep them constantly moist. Germination usually takes 2 to 4 weeks. Make sure that the soil is well-drained and that the seeds get enough light, as this promotes germination.

Tips and tricks

For successful sowing of Salvia lyrata, it is helpful to prepare the soil well. Mix in organic compost to improve the nutrient supply. Keep the soil evenly moist, but avoid waterlogging as this can damage the roots. Salvia lyrata prefers sunny to semi-shady locations and can also cope with less fertile soils. Another tip: if you cut the plants back after flowering, you will encourage a second flowering and denser growth.
