Sowing instructions

You can sow the seeds of Thymus vulgaris "German Winter" in spring or fall. Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil. Sow the seeds shallowly and cover them only lightly with soil, as thyme is a light germinator. Keep the soil evenly moist, but avoid waterlogging. Germination takes about 14-21 days at a temperature of 15-20°C. Once the plants have reached a height of around 5 cm, you can separate them or transplant them outdoors, keeping a distance of around 25 cm between the plants.

Tips and tricks

• Thyme prefers a sunny location and calcareous, well-drained soil.
• A mulch layer of gravel or sand helps to retain moisture in the soil and improve aeration at the same time.
• Prune the plants regularly to encourage bushy growth and maximize the harvest.
• Thyme is relatively easy to care for and requires little fertilizer. It is best to use organic fertilizer or compost.
• If you grow thyme in a pot, make sure it is well drained and use special herb soil.
