Sowing instructions: The seeds of Anacyclus pyrethrum, also known as Bertram's root, should be sown in spring when the danger of frost has passed. First prepare the seedbed by making it well-drained and adding a little sand if necessary. Spread the seeds thinly and cover them lightly with soil, as they need light to germinate. Keep the soil constantly moist, but avoid waterlogging. The first seedlings should appear after around 10-14 days. As soon as the plants are big enough, you can separate them to a distance of about 20-30 cm to give them enough space to grow.

Tips and tricks: Anacyclus pyrethrum prefers a sunny location and thrives best in well-drained, nutrient-rich soil. The plant is relatively easy to care for and only requires moderate watering. To promote growth, you can occasionally feed the plants with an organic fertilizer. Cut off faded flowers regularly to encourage flower formation and keep the plant healthy. Once established, Anacyclus pyrethrum is quite drought resistant, so it is important not to overwater the plant. In colder regions, it is advisable to protect the plant with a light layer of mulch in winter.

Worth knowing: Anacyclus pyrethrum, also known as Spanish bertram or pyrethrum, is a perennial plant from the Asteraceae family. Originally from the Mediterranean region, it has been valued for centuries for its medicinal and culinary properties. The root of the plant contains pyréthrins, which are traditionally used in the preparation of natural remedies, particularly for the treatment of toothache and other oral problems. It is also valued in modern phytotherapy. In the kitchen, the powdered root is used as a spice known for its slightly anaesthetic effect. Anacyclus pyrethrum also attracts bees and butterflies, making it a valuable addition to natural gardens.
