Sowing instructions

For best results, sow the seeds in spring when the danger of frost has passed. Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil. Press the seeds lightly into the soil and cover them only thinly with soil, as they need light to germinate. Keep the soil moist, but avoid waterlogging. The first seedlings should appear after about 10-14 days.

Tips and tricks

To promote germination, you can soak the seeds in warm water for 24 hours before sowing. As soon as the seedlings are large enough, thin them out to a distance of around 20-30 cm so that they have enough space to grow. Regular watering and fertilizing with a balanced fertilizer supports growth and flower formation. Cut off faded flowers regularly to encourage the plant to produce more flowers. If you want to cultivate the plant in a pot, make sure that the pot has enough drainage holes.

Acmella oleracea, also known as paracress or toothpick weed, is not only decorative but also useful. The purple leaves and yellow flowers with their unusual shape are a real eye-catcher in the garden or on the balcony. In addition, the leaves and flowers are edible and have a unique, slightly numbing flavor that can be used in the kitchen for salads and exotic dishes. The plant is also known for its medicinal properties, particularly for relieving toothache and inflammation.
