Sowing instructions

If you want to grow "Rouge vif D'Etampes" pumpkin seeds, you should start sowing at the end of April to the beginning of May. Plant the seeds in nutrient-rich soil, preferably in small pots indoors or in a greenhouse. Make sure to plant the seeds about 2-3 cm deep. The ideal germination temperature is 20-24°C. The first seedlings will appear after 7-14 days. From mid-May, when frost is no longer expected, you can plant the seedlings outdoors. Choose a sunny location with humus-rich, well-drained soil. Keep a planting distance of around 1-1.5 meters, as Rouge vif D'Etampes is a climbing plant.

Harvest, use & storage

The bright red fruits of this pumpkin are ready to harvest in late summer to fall, from September to October depending on the weather. You can tell when they are ripe because the skin is hard and the stem is dry. Carefully cut the pumpkin with a sharp knife, leaving a small stem attached. This ensures that the pumpkin keeps for longer. It should be stored in a cool, dry place. This will allow you to store your harvest for up to several months. Rouge vif D'Etampes is ideal for soups, stews and oven dishes. Its aromatic, slightly sweet flesh is also perfect for pumpkin pie or jams.

Tips & Tricks

• Water the plants regularly, but avoid waterlogging. Mulching helps to keep the soil moist.
• You can fertilize with organic fertilizer or compost to support fruit formation.
• Cut back the tendrils as necessary to control growth and encourage larger fruit.
