  • Sowing methodYou can either sow the seeds directly into the soil or pre-grow them in pots or seed trays first. Cover the seeds only lightly with soil and keep them moist.
  • Light and temperatureBasil seeds need light to germinate. Make sure they are placed in a sunny spot. The ideal germination temperature is between 18 and 24 degrees Celsius.
  • Soil and irrigationUse well-drained, humus-rich soil and keep it evenly moist, but not too wet.

  • Regular pruningRegular pruning of basil promotes the growth and branching of the plant. Regularly remove the upper leaves to promote bushy growth.
  • Correct irrigationBasil needs constant moisture, so it is important to water regularly. However, avoid stagnant water as this can lead to root rot.
  • Protection from the coldBasil is sensitive to the cold. When temperatures drop, you should protect your basil plants either indoors or with a cover to prevent frost damage.
