Sowing instructions

Growing Lactuca sativa "Trocadero", a particularly popular lettuce variety, is uncomplicated and suitable for gardening enthusiasts of all levels. You can sow the seeds in a cold frame from March or directly outdoors from April. Make sure to plant the seeds approx. 0.5-1 cm deep in the soil and leave a space of around 25-30 cm between the rows. The ideal germination temperature is between 10 and 18°C. Keep the soil evenly moist during the germination phase, but avoid waterlogging to prevent mold growth. The first seedlings will appear after 7 to 14 days and the lettuce will quickly grow into strong plants.

Harvest, use & storage

Lactuca sativa "Trocadero" can be harvested after 6 to 8 weeks, depending on the time of sowing. The best time to harvest is early in the morning when the lettuce is particularly fresh and crisp. Cut off the entire head about 2 cm above the ground. Lettuce is ideal for crunchy salads, as a side dish or as an ingredient in wraps and sandwiches. It is tastiest when freshly harvested, but you can also store it in the fridge for a few days. To do this, wrap it in a damp cloth or store it in a food storage box.

Tips & Tricks

To be able to continuously harvest fresh lettuce, it is advisable to sow new seeds every two weeks. This way you will always have a supply of fresh lettuce. Make sure you water regularly, especially during dry periods. However, you should make sure that the leaves remain dry to avoid fungal diseases. A light layer of mulch protects the soil from drying out and can also prevent weeds from forming.

Lactuca sativa "Trocadero" is characterized by delicate, light green leaves and a pleasantly mild taste. This variety is particularly hardy and is suitable for growing in the garden as well as in planters on balconies or terraces. The lettuce is also rich in vitamins, fiber and minerals, which makes it not only delicious but also healthy.
