Sowing instructions

Rosmarinus officinalis, better known as rosemary, is a wonderful herb for your garden. To grow rosemary from seed, start in spring. Sow the seeds in well-drained, light potting compost and cover them only lightly, as they need light to germinate. Keep the soil moist, but not wet, and place the seed container in a warm, sunny spot. Germination can take two to four weeks.

Tips and tricks

Rosemary loves sunny locations and well-drained soil. If you plant the seedlings outdoors, choose a spot with at least six hours of direct sunlight per day. Water regularly, but take care to avoid waterlogging. Rosemary is drought tolerant once established. Occasional pruning encourages bushy growth and prevents the plant from becoming woody.

Worth knowing

Rosemary is not only a popular culinary herb, but also has medicinal properties. It is often used in aromatherapy to improve concentration and reduce stress. Rosemary is also an attractive ornamental plant with blue to purple flowers that attract bees and other pollinators.
