Santalum seeds can be germinated by soaking them in water or diluted water beforehand. Gibberellin saunas The quality of the food can be improved by pre-soaking in water.

Notice: Germinating these seeds definitely requires patience and the right equipment (plant lamp, propagator, possibly a heating mat)

Sowing instructions

To successfully cultivate Santalum album seeds, start by soaking the seeds in lukewarm water for around 12 to 24 hours. This promotes germination as the hard shell of the seeds is softened. Then plant them in well-drained soil that is slightly sandy. Keep the soil evenly moist, but avoid waterlogging. A bright location with indirect sunlight is ideal. Germination can take a few weeks to months, so be patient!

Harvest, use & storage

Sandalwood is known for its valuable wood and oil. After around 15 to 20 years, you can harvest the tree to use the aromatic wood. The roots also contain fragrant oils. The wood is often used to make perfume, cosmetics or incense. Store it in a cool, dry place to preserve the aromas and quality for a long time.

Tips & Tricks

As the sandalwood tree is a semi-parasite, you should plant it close to host plants such as grasses or shrubs so that it can absorb nutrients from them. Make sure that the soil never dries out completely, as this can impair growth. Regular but sparing fertilization promotes the healthy growth of your tree.
