Sowing instructions

If you want to grow Scutellaria baicalensis, also known as Baikal skullcap, there are a few important steps to consider. Start by choosing a sunny location in your garden or on your balcony that is well ventilated. The seeds of Scutellaria baicalensis should be sown in moist, well-drained soil. Ideally, you should plant the seeds 1-2 cm deep in the soil. As germination can sometimes be a little slow, be patient and keep the soil evenly moist. The best results are achieved at temperatures between 18 and 22 degrees Celsius.

Harvest, use & storage

The harvest time for Scutellaria baicalensis begins when the plant has fully developed its flowers, usually in late summer. Cut off the flower stems and leave them to dry in a shady place. You can use the dried flowers for teas, tinctures or as a natural remedy. Store the dried plant parts in airtight containers in a cool, dry place to preserve their effectiveness.

Make sure that you check the soil moisture regularly, as Scutellaria baicalensis does not tolerate waterlogging. Fertilize the plants lightly every few weeks with a balanced fertilizer to support their growth. If you are growing in a cooler climate, it may be helpful to provide the plants with frost protection during the winter.
