Sowing instructions:

Before you start sowing, choose a suitable location for your milk thistle plants. They prefer a sunny location with well-drained soil.

1. Preparation of the floor: Loosen the soil and remove weeds and stones. Milk thistle thrives best in slightly alkaline soil. If your soil is acidic, you can enrich it with a little lime.
2. Sowing: Scatter the Silybum marianum var. albiflorum seeds evenly over the prepared area and cover them lightly with a thin layer of soil. Press the soil down gently to ensure that the seeds have good soil contact.
3. Irrigation: Keep the soil evenly moist until the seeds germinate. However, avoid excessive watering to prevent waterlogging, which could hinder germination.
4. Germination: Germination can take a few weeks. Be patient and keep the soil moist to support germination.

Tips and tricks:

• Care of young plants: As soon as the seedlings appear, keep them free of weeds and competing plants so that they can develop well.
• Protection against pests: Milk thistles are hardy plants, but they can be attacked by slugs and certain insects. If necessary, use biological pest control methods to protect your plants.
• Harvest time: The flowers of milk thistle can be harvested in the second year after sowing when they are fully open. Harvest the flower heads before the seeds form to encourage seed production.
