Lagochilus inebrians, also known as "spearmint", is a fascinating plant from the Lamiaceae family. It originates from Central Asia and is traditionally prized for its unique properties. With these high-quality seeds, you can grow this rare plant yourself and enjoy its full splendor.

Sowing instructions

Ideally, the cultivation of Lagochilus inebrians should begin in early spring when temperatures are mild and a stable environment can be created. Before sowing, you should soak the seeds for at least 24 hours in lukewarm water (even better in Gibberillic acid/GA3) soak. This ensures that they swell well and facilitates germination. Then plant them about 1 cm deep in well-drained potting compost. Keep the soil slightly moist, but take care to avoid waterlogging. The ideal germination temperature is between 18 and 22 degrees Celsius, and the first seedlings will appear after about 2-4 weeks. Make sure to protect the young plants from direct sunlight to ensure optimal growth.

Harvest, use & storage

After successful cultivation, the harvest can begin:

  • Harvest time: The leaves and flowers can be harvested once they are fully developed (usually in late summer).
  • Drying: Dry the plant parts in an airy, shady place for gentle preservation.
  • Storage: Store the dried plant parts in an airtight container in a dark, dry place.

Tips and tricks

  • Pouring: Lagochilus inebrians prefers a moderate water supply - avoid waterlogging at all costs.
  • Fertilization: Use organic fertilizer or compost to promote growth.
  • Pest protection: Watch out for aphids and other pests that may occasionally appear.
  • Winter care: The plant is only partially hardy. In cold regions, a sheltered location or cultivation in a pot is recommended.

Worth knowing

Lagochilus inebrians is traditionally used and valued in Central Asia. Its name "drunken mint" comes from the special properties of the plant. It contains a variety of essential oils, flavonoids and other bioactive substances that make it unique.

This plant is not only botanically interesting, but also a real rarity in domestic gardens.
