Sunflower splendor for your garden

Helianthus annuus "Henry Wild" is an impressive sunflower variety that is a real highlight in any garden with its bright yellow flowers and robust stature. With a growth height of up to 2 meters and a long flowering period from July to October, it not only attracts attention, but also attracts bees and butterflies.

Sowing instructions

Helianthus annuus "Henry Wild" is best sown directly into the open ground from mid-April to the end of May. Choose a sunny location with well-drained, nutrient-rich soil. Sow the seeds about 2-3 cm deep and 30-50 cm apart to give the plants enough space to develop. Keep the soil moist during the germination phase, but avoid waterlogging. The first seedlings will appear after about 1-2 weeks.

Harvest, use & storage

The flowers of the "Henry Wild" are ideal as cut flowers and bring summer freshness to any vase. You can also harvest the ripe seeds and use them as bird food or store them for next year. Cut off the heads when they are fully ripe and the back has turned brown. Dry them in an airy, dry place and then remove the seeds. Store them in an airtight container in a cool, dark place.

Tips and tricks

  • In windy locations, support the tall stems with bamboo sticks or plant spirals to prevent them from bending over.
  • Regular fertilization with low-nitrogen complete fertilizer promotes growth and flower formation.
  • Remove withered heads to prolong the flowering period and encourage the plant to form new buds.

Worth knowing

Helianthus annuus "Henry Wild" belongs to the Asteraceae family and is known for its adaptability to different soil conditions. The sunflower orients its flowers towards the sun, a phenomenon known as heliotropism. Originally from North America, it has established itself worldwide as an ornamental and useful plant.
