Hypericum cerastioides "Silvana" is an enchanting, low-growing plant that will enrich your garden with its bright yellow flowers. This plant is perfect for rock gardens, borders and as ground cover. With its delicate flowers, it creates a lively play of colors and is also extremely easy to care for.
Sowing instructions
Hypericum cerastioides "Silvana" seeds are sown in spring, preferably between February and April. You can either sow the seeds directly outdoors or pre-grow them indoors. Use a high-quality sowing soil and press the seeds lightly into the soil, as they are light germinators. The ideal germination temperature is around 18 to 22 degrees Celsius. Keep the soil evenly moist, but not too wet. Germination can take between two and four weeks, so be patient and look forward to the first tender little plants.
Harvest, use & storage
As soon as the plant is well established, it will delight you with its radiant flowers from June. The flowers are ideal for use in fresh summer bouquets or as a natural decoration in the garden. "Silvana" is a hardy perennial that comes back year after year. Cut off the faded flowers regularly to prolong the flowering period. Store the seeds in a cool, dry place so that they can germinate for several years.
Tips & Tricks
Hypericum cerastioides "Silvana" prefers a sunny to semi-shady location. Make sure that the soil is well-drained, as waterlogging can damage the roots. In nutrient-poor soil, the plant is happy with occasional fertilizer applications in spring. It requires little care and is therefore also ideal for garden beginners.
Worth knowing
The plant is not only beautiful, but also useful: its dense leaves provide protection against weeds. It also attracts bees and butterflies, which contribute to the biodiversity of your garden. Hypericum cerastioides originates from the mountainous regions of Europe and Asia, where it thrives in rocky soils - hence its particular resilience.
