Sowing instructions

Solanum lycopersicum "Marmande" is a popular tomato variety that is characterized by its large, juicy fruits. Start sowing indoors or in a greenhouse from February to April. Use small seed pots or seed trays and fill them with special potting compost. Press the seeds lightly into the soil and cover them thinly with soil. Keep the soil constantly moist, but avoid waterlogging. Ideally, the pots should be kept in a warm, bright place at around 20-25°C. The seeds will germinate after about 7-14 days.

Tips and tricks

As soon as the seedlings are strong enough and develop the first real leaves, you can prick them out and transplant them into larger pots. From mid-May, after the Ice Saints, the young plants can be moved outdoors or into larger containers on the balcony. Make sure to choose a sunny, wind-protected location. Tomatoes need a lot of water and nutrients, so you should water them regularly and fertilize them every two weeks or so. Mulching helps to retain moisture in the soil and suppress weeds. Regularly remove the side shoots (pinching out) to strengthen the plant and increase the yield.

It belongs to the beef tomato group and is known for its large, ribbed fruits, which can reach a weight of up to 300 grams. The fruits are ideal for fresh salads, sauces or as a topping for sandwiches. This variety is relatively resistant to diseases and pests, which also makes it attractive for beginners. With the right care, you will be able to harvest plenty from July to October.
