Sowing instructions

Sowing the Psium sativum convar. sat. "Blauwschokker" This is best done from mid-April when the soil has warmed up sufficiently. Prepare the bed well by loosening it deeply and making the soil finely crumbly. Place the seeds at a depth of about 5 cm and keep a row spacing of 40-50 cm. After about 10 to 14 days, the first seedlings will begin to sprout. Make sure to keep the plants evenly moist during the germination phase. Early spring and late spring are suitable times for sowing outdoors.

Harvest, use & storage

After around 10 to 12 weeks, you can harvest the first blue-black pods of the "Blauwschokker" pea. The pods can be used fresh as a vegetable, but the dried peas are also ideal for stews or as a stock for the winter. Harvest regularly to encourage the plant to produce more flowers. The pods should be firm and plump when you pick them. We recommend drying the peas in an airy place for storage. This way they will keep for a long time and lose none of their nutty aroma.

Tips & Tricks

You can support the peas on a trellis or with plant stakes to support the vines. Water the plants regularly, but avoid waterlogging. A mixed crop with carrots or lettuce also improves the soil quality and promotes growth.
