Sowing instructions

You can sow the "Canadian Wonder" seeds directly outdoors from mid-May if there is no risk of frost. The soil should be well-drained and rich in nutrients. Sow the seeds in rows about 40 cm apart and 3-5 cm deep. Make sure to separate the young plants after germination so that there is a distance of about 20 cm between the plants. If you prefer to pre-cultivate, you can do this on the windowsill from April. Germination takes around 7-14 days at an optimum soil temperature of 15-20 °C.

Harvest, use & storage

After 8-10 weeks you can harvest the first tender green beans. The harvest period runs from July to September. "Canadian Wonder" beans are ideal as fresh vegetables, for stews or for freezing. If you want to use the beans dry, allow the pods to fully ripen until they turn brown. You can then harvest the dried beans and store them in a cool, dry place. They will keep for several months and are ideal for winter storage.

Tips & Tricks

To maximize the yield, you should water the plants regularly, especially during dry periods. Bean plants also need good aeration to avoid fungal diseases. It is advisable to improve the soil with compost and occasionally use an organic fertilizer during the growth phase. A mixed culture with carrots or cucumbers can also strengthen the plants.

The "Canadian Wonder" is a traditional bush bean variety that is characterized by its vigorous growth and high yield. The beans are rich in protein and contain important nutrients such as vitamin B, iron and magnesium. Growing beans also promotes soil health, as they bind nitrogen from the air and release it into the soil.
