Sowing instructions

Growing Salvia napifolia is easy and gives you pleasure right from the planting stage! It is best to sow the seeds in spring or fall. Use well-drained soil, as sage loves sunny locations and tolerates drought well. Press the seeds lightly into the soil, but only cover them thinly with substrate. Keep the soil moist during germination, but not too wet. At temperatures between 15 and 20 °C, the seeds will germinate after around two to four weeks. Choose a spot in the garden or on the balcony that offers plenty of light so that your plants grow strong and healthy.

Harvest, use & storage

The harvest time for Salvia napifolia begins in summer. Cut the leaves in the morning when their aroma is at its most intense. You can use them fresh or dry them to preserve the flavor for longer. Store the dried leaves in a cool, dark place in airtight containers to preserve the full flavor. The leaves are ideal for seasoning meat dishes, soups or as a base for aromatic teas. Salvia napifolia is also popular in natural cosmetics as it has skin-soothing properties.

Tips & Tricks

Salvia napifolia is easy to care for and undemanding. Only water the plant moderately - it loves dry soil. To encourage a bushy growth habit, you can prune the tips of the young shoots from time to time. Protect the plant with some mulch in winter to prevent frost damage, especially in colder regions. In warm climates, Salvia napifolia often remains hardy.
