Sowing instructions

Sowing Arnica montana seeds requires a little patience, but rewards you with bright yellow flowers that not only look beautiful, but are also versatile. It is best to sow the seeds directly outdoors in the fall or early spring. Arnica montana prefers nutrient-poor, slightly acidic soil and loves sunny to semi-shady locations. Simply scatter the seeds on the ground and cover them only lightly with soil - Arnica montana is a light germinator! At temperatures of 15 to 20 degrees Celsius, it takes 3 to 6 weeks for germination to begin. Make sure to keep the soil evenly moist during this time.

Harvest, use & storage

You can harvest the flowers of Arnica montana from the second year of growth, usually between June and August, when they have fully bloomed. Carefully cut off the flowers and dry them in an airy place in the shade. You can use the dried flowers to make tinctures, ointments or teas - ideal for external use for bruises, muscle tension and inflammation. Store the dried flowers in a dark, airtight container so that they retain their healing properties for a long time.

Tips & Tricks

Arnica montana is a perennial plant that spreads in its habitat over the years. Once established, it is quite easy to care for. It requires little fertilizer as it prefers nutrient-poor soil. Regular watering is important, but you should avoid waterlogging at all costs. If you want to encourage germination, you can put the seeds in the fridge for around 2 to 3 weeks before sowing to simulate the natural winter cycle.

Worth knowing

Arnica montana is not only a beautiful plant, but has also been known in folk medicine for centuries. Its healing properties are used in many skin and pain remedies. As the plant is protected in the wild, growing it yourself is not only a sustainable alternative, but also a way of cultivating this valuable plant in your own garden.
